| My fascination
with maps dates back to the sixties when I was a morose pre-teenager
riding in the back of the family station wagon. Gazing at the
road map helped me endure the annual family trek from the Berkshires
to upstate New York. |
| In "Digital
States," I have crossed cartography with crafts using digital
technology. Denim or plaid "fabrics" form the base for the "stitched"
maps. (The plaids are representations of official state tartans)
Quilting comes into play in "Denim States," a map of the entire
US in various denims. |
| The route
represented in the small prints is a road trip from my home in
Mar Vista, CA to my mom's in Barneveld, NY. (I-10 to I-20 to I-30
to I-40 to I-65 to I-71 to I-271 to I-90) I have driven that route
many times, and the Rand McNally Road Atlas is always at hand
in the passenger seat |
